Magnificent Marvelous Me Information

History

Art with Heart began researching to find out what other needs we could meet through our unique, therapeutic books and discovered that siblings of seriously ill or disabled children were tremendously under-served. We began working with a group of experts on sibling issues who became our project partners and advisors and helped us identify the issues that siblings face. The interactive book is based on principals of narrative, cognitive behavioral and art therapies and filled with engaging drawing and coloring activities, with age-appropriate questions that help the child communicate their needs. As the title hints, “Magnificent Marvelous Me!” addresses the deep-seeded need for the child to matter, and to have a place of importance in their family structure.

During the time that the first 5,000 children used the book, we received several letters and emails from school counselors and others informing us that they weren’t just using the book with siblings, but with children who were facing difficult family situations such as divorce, abuse, foster care, death, etc. And so, to support the revision of the books, Art with Heart turned to Committee for Children, a global leader in the prevention of bullying, violence, and child sexual abuse. They lent their expertise in emotion management and other important social-emotional skills and helped us design new activities to help elementary-aged children identify and manage their emotions and behavior.

Social & Emotional Connections

cfc_color_logoArt with Heart worked with community partner COMMITTEE FOR CHILDREN, makers of the Second Step Program – a program that supports learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving for elementary children – in order make social and emotional skills an integral part of our curriculum.
