Art with Heart’s purpose is to spread the healing power of creative expression to kids facing trauma or adversity. Coming soon, we will be relaunching our website which will serve as a forum for greater connection and inspiration.

We know that evolution and self-expression go hand in hand. As we enter our third decade, we are evolving our brand expression to represent the greater possibility and momentum experienced through partnership. It will be a place where you can read stories of incredible personal growth, experience the impact that your engagement and support have on kids around the world, and connect with others.

Special Guest Speakers

Jenifer-Vaughan-sqJenifer Vaughan joins us from Newtown, CT where she is a community volunteer and substitute teacher. Since the 12/14 tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Jenifer has poured her energy and passion into helping her community heal through grass roots advocacy and activism. She served on the team to help rebuild Sandy Hook’s classrooms after the old building was closed down. A month after the shooting, she began championing Art with Heart’s cause locally because she believes in the power of art to mend broken hearts. In her spare time, she serves on the board of The Newtown Youth Academy, and enjoys gardening, entertaining, traveling, and the occasional soccer match.

Sarah-Roman-photoSarah Roman and her extended family are the owners of The Taunton Press, a leading special-interest media company in Newtown, CT. She worked there for over 12 years in various marketing and leadership roles, and her husband now serves as President. After the tragedy of 12/14, Sarah and her family created a special fund with a special focus  on mental health and helping the community move forward. She is a big supporter of the arts, performing and teaching violin and serving as a substitute teacher when needed.

Helena-Hillinga-Haas-COH-SpeakerHelena Hillinga Haas, MA, ATR, CL graduated with a Masters Degree in Art Therapy from George Washington University and holds a Bachelors in Marketing from Georgia State. As a result, her quest to merge art with business has been a life long interest. During this event Helena will lead you in an hands-on art therapy exercise based on Art with Heart’s newest book, Draw It Out. In this way, you can get a taste of why the children respond so well to our methods based in creative expression.

Madelyn-sqMadelyn is twelve years old and recently entered middle school, where she was invited to one of Art with Heart’s after-school programs. The program helped her deal with loss in her own life and “get her anger out” so she could be more at peace. She joins us with two of her close friends that she met during the program.

Sammamish Club trainer extraordinaire John McKinnon hosts an Aerobathon to benefit children.

Emcee John McKinnon is a fitness expert and has been involved in helping his community for many years. He and his wife had been searching for ways to help their children grieve after a personal loss. Shortly after, he was introduced to Art with Heart’s work, and recognized the value. As a result, they made a commitment to host an annual event to build awareness and supporters through fitness fun. He currently works at two of the best local health clubs, Arena Sport’s Sammamish Club and The Bellevue Club.
