GIVE BIG DAY IS COMING!
“How do you say “thank you” for sunshine or health… for clear days or gentle rains… for happiness, joy or love? You say it by sharing what you have. You say it by making the world a better place in which to live.”
Help Art with Heart help kids and bring joy into your life. Join in on Seattle Foundation’s third annual GiveBIG on Wednesday. May 15th – a one-day, online charitable giving event where each credit card donation made on that day between midnight and midnight (Pacific Daylight Time) will be stretched further thanks to sponsors who have pooled their money to help match a portion of your gift!
Start now by “Liking” us on Facebook to get more information. And then mark your calendar to be sure to remember to make an online gift that will make a world of difference.

MAGNIFICENT MARVELOUS ME PRESCHOOL CLUB
Child abuse leaves lasting scars that can affect children throughout their lifetime. Art with Heart’s Magnificent Marvelous Me Preschool Club is designed to help, but we need your support. We are looking for:
- Program Volunteers will work either directly with the kids doing therapeutic art or work as observers or story writers during the workshops. A police background check is required (fees of $60 will be reimbursed after 2 months of service) and you must commit to volunteer once a month for six months.
- Prep Volunteers are also needed and will not be required to complete a background check, but will work in the office prepping art materials for the workshops.
Contact Katie Choate, Program Coordinator, Katie@artwithheart.org or 206-362-4047. Workshops will occur during the workday on Thursday mornings.

CHILL & SPILL INTENSIVE TRAINING
October 21 & 22
During these trainings, we provide a road map for understanding the Chill & Spill Program in reaching high-risk youth. Chill & Spill is a prevention and intervention tool that fosters social and emotional learning in a variety of settings. Based in cognitive behavioral, narrative and art therapies, the journal is designed to increase self-awareness, increase management of emotions, and promote healthy connections.
This intensive 1.5 day course prepares participants to bring the C&S Program to their adolescent clients. Through lecture, demonstration, structured hands-on activities, group discussion, and teach-back opportunities you will gain knowledge about:
- Benefits of the C&S Program as demonstrated by a year-long evaluation study, including the conceptual and research base for the role of creativity and its application in mental health promotion
- Hands-on artistic experience in a variety of media (creative writing, collage, painting, wire, and poetry)
- Basic skills necessary to strengthen relationships with youth through the creative activities in C&S
The class is co-taught by Annie McCall, MA, LMHC a therapist who specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and is co-founder of Youth & Family DBT of Seattle, and Steffanie Lorig co-author of Chill & Spill, and founder of Art with Heart.
COST: Early bird registration fee of $250 includes art supplies, 1 Chill & Spill, 1 Therapist’s Companion, 1 Evaluation Report, and a light breakfast on both days. Licensed mental health professionals in Washington State (LMHC, LMFT or LSWs) are eligible to receive 11 Continuing Education hours toward professional requirements (fees apply), and 10.5 Clock Hours are also available (fees apply). Download the Oct. 2013 C&S Registration Form to ensure your spot!
