Promoting Healing Through Creativity

How Art with Heart’s therapeutic books support the emotional needs of hospitalized children and their siblings

Join us for a hands-on, creative workshop which will introduce you how to utilize drawing and writing to help ease the fears of hospitalized children and their siblings. During the workshop, you will:

  • Gain knowledge of what the hospital experience is like from a child’s perspective
  • Learn how creativity can play a role in healing and facilitate communication with you and their family members
  • Understand how to encourage creativity, even with children with limited physical capacity
  • Become familiar with how to use Art with Heart’s books to support your work and get hands-on time in Chill & Spill
  • Learn about “Art Buddy” volunteer opportunities at Swedish

Art with Heart is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of youth with therapeutic tools that promote emotional health and well-being. Based on child psychology and family development principles, their therapeutic and interactive books are filled with engaging activities that increase communication, provide emotional support, and encourage exploration of complex and conflicting emotions that often go hand-in-hand with health issues. Attendance is limited, so be sure to register today!

You are invited to take an Art Journaling Magical Tour of Wonderland

An Extraordinary Multimedia Altered Book Workshop

Spring 2011, 10am-5pm
McMillen Art Studio • 19360 163rd Court NE, Woodinville, WA 98072

Join us for a full-day, artistic immersion experience where artist Erin McMillen will help you unearth your spontaneity, imagination and intuition to discover your unique, individual style. Your canvas will be an otherwise forgotten book, which you will turn into an art journal, using a range of painting and collage techniques.

TEACHER: Erin McMillen, formally trained as a graphic designer, originator of the Robert B McMillen Art Scholarship Community.  Unlearning her formal education over the past several years, Erin has immersed herself in multi-media artwork.  For more information about Erin and her Art Journaling Tours, please visit http://www.artjournalingtours.com and http://imaginarytours.blogspot.com.
