Art With Heart

AN OVERWHELMING NEED

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, studies show that at least one in five children and adolescents have a mental health disorder. At least one in 10, or about 6 million people, have a serious emotional disturbance, severe enough to cause some level of impairment.

According to the World Health Organization, evidence points to a disturbing trend. They state that “by 2020, neuropsychiatric disorders in children will swell by 50 percent compared with other health-related problems, making them one of the five leading causes of childhood illness, disability and death.”

RESEARCH THAT SUPPORTS OUR WORK

As part of our ongoing work, we utilize professional and knowledgeable communities that serve youth in crisis. Our publications are based on empirical and theoretical research about arts-based intervention and we draw together the learning from the experiences, analysis and recommendations of professionals. We hope our work will contribute to an emerging discussion within the field of mental health care for youth, and provide a coherent vision of facts that can make a difference to children everywhere.

The following is a summary of research findings that you can use to increase your own knowledge, share with your board of directors or use in countless other ways to support the important work that Art with Heart is carrying out.
