Art with Heart folks held a printmaking workshop on Saturday July 19th for folks involved in the Special Olympics. Not only was it a boatload of fun, it was the first time many of them had ever done a project like this.
The workshop was based on an activity from Chill & Spill: we asked the artists to think about words that described who they really were. They chose one, or a few, to illustrate, through the printing process. We had many choices for them: including collagraph, foam relief or linoleum block printing. Everyone chose whichever medium suited them best and some tried all three!
The staff really enjoyed the hands-on teaching and sharing experience with everyone, especially Doris, our self-proclaimed “non-artist” (we keep telling her that everyone is an artist, but she just refuses to believe us!).
As you can see, the results spoke for themselves! You can see more photos posted in our gallery section.
Sappi has been near and dear to our hearts since 2003, when they awarded us an “Ideas that Matter” Grant. Because of them, our Oodles of Doodles book has helped thousands of hospitalized children. We applied again in 2005 for Chill & Spill and they supported our efforts once again to allow us to be able to help 20,000 adolescents through its healing, therapeutic pages. Now, several years later, they have blessed us again with a grant to help cover some of the costs for the next sibling book (this one will be for teens/tweens). THANK YOU to the judges and to JOE, our Hero!
