Victim’s Friends Helped
It was the worst mass slaying in more than 20 years. Last month, 28-year-old Kyle Aaron Huff claimed the life of six victims on Capital Hill near downtown Seattle.
The youngest of those victims was 14-year-old Melissa Moore, who was in 9th grade. She died of a shotgun wound to the chest and a gunshot to the head. Her classmates at Columbia Junior High were shocked. They described her as a kind and sweet girl.
An anonymous donor felt that Melissa’s classmates needed an outlet for their grief and contacted us. Because of their generosity, Art with Heart was able to send a case of Chill & Spill books to the school’s counselor, who used the books to help him facilitate the healing for many students at once.
“It was great to have something meaningful to give to the kids who were hurting most and watch them as they worked through it on their own. We noticed that it gave them a sense of peace about what happened.”
